A GUIDE FOR CALCULATING THE RELEASE (DIN) SETTING
FOR A SET OF SKI BINDINGS

STEP 1 - SKIER TYPE

Step 1 involves determining what type of skier you believe yourself to be. In the standard DIN release setting table there are three classes of skier consisting of Beginner, intermediate and advanced. The more advanced you believe yourself to be the higher the release setting will be meaning the less chance you have of an accidental binding release but the more chance you have of the bindings not releasing during a crash. Select your type from the table below and make a note.

Type of Skier Type of skiing Comments on force required for release
I Cautious Skier (Novice) Low release force required (wide release safety margin)
II Average or Moderate Skier (Advanced) Average release force required
III Aggressive and High speed Skier (Expert) High release force required (narrow release safety margin)
