A GUIDE FOR CALCULATING THE RELEASE (DIN) SETTING
FOR A SET OF SKI BINDINGS

STEP 4 - FIND WHAT YOUR DIN (RELEASE) SETTING SHOULD BE FOR YOUR SPECIFIC BINDINGS (AND SKI BOOTS)

The final step in the whole process is to find what the release (DIN) setting should be for your specific bindings and ski boots based on your adjusted skier code. It is necessary to adjust both your front and back bindings such that the DIN (release) number from the correct cell of the table below is selected. This value is a function of your adjusted skier code and the sole length of your specific ski boots. It is thus important to find the correct length of your ski boot sole in order to set the correct release (DIN) setting. You should find that this length, in mm, is written on the side of your ski boots. Most modern ski boots include this number either etched into the plastic or on a sticker on the boot. If it is not present, or the sticker has come off then you can simply measure it with a tape measure as illustrated in the diagram on the right.

Measuring boot sole length
  1. First of all locate the column corresponding to your Adjusted Skier Code that you found in Step 3 by tracing along the top row of the table shown below.
  2. Next find the Sole Length of your ski boots in mm on the left hand side of the table shown below.
  3. Next locate your DIN (release) setting value by finding the location in the table where the column for your Adjusted Skier Code from Step 3 and the row for your Boot Sole Length intersect.
  4. Finally note your DIN (release) setting value. This is the release (DIN setting) value that you need to set in the window on the front and rear bindings of both your skis. Typically this is done with the boot in the binding using a cross, or Philips head screwdriver.
